POSITION OVERVIEW:

Uncommon Schools is looking for innovative leaders who are committed to closing the achievement gap. The ACOO oversees Directors of Operations and Regional Team, enabling principals and teachers to drive success with students.  

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

-          Manage school Directors of Operation to:

  • Run schools that work relentlessly to close the achievement gap and fill the mission and model of Uncommon Schools
  • Manage their school operations teams
  • Support instruction and student achievement by maintaining excellent finances, facilities, infrastructure, HR/employee relations, and communication with families, district counterparts and other stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with state and local requirements for school operations and safety
  • Support principals in all aspects of school leadership, including but not limited to staff and student culture, family communication and stakeholder relationships

-          Regional team management

  • Manage members of the regional team- including, but not limited to the Director of Special Education and Regional Special Projects Coordinator

-          Coordinate with regional teams to ensure seamless implementation of USI and regional initiatives and best practice

-          Ensure compliance and reporting across the region's schools and charter to all relevant state/local agencies

-          Manage overall charter finances and ensures schools are effectively managing school-based finances

-          Support COO to manage and oversee facility planning/long-term management, including major renovations, acquisition and maintenance

-          Coordinate with USI Home Office teams to ensure seamless implementation of best practice and initiatives across all the region's schools

-          Collaborate with other Regional leaders, including the Associate Managing Director and Director of Strategic Initiatives to lead regional planning, leadership culture and ensure the region's long-term success

-          Participate in USI meetings/PDs/inspections as required

-          Other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong management skills.

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment; flexible, able to work autonomously as well as take direction as needed.
    • Sense of humor; and enjoys working with children of all ages.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Access;

  • Minimum educational level:
    • Bachelor’s Degree.  MPP, MBA or JD preferred.

  • Experience required:
    • 5+ years of related work experience in Operations;
    • 5+ years of team management with demonstrated track record of success.
    • Ideally, experience building extremely efficient school operations systems.
    • Prior experience working in schools and/or urban communities is preferred;
