Position Overview
The Associate Director of Middle School Math Content is an essential member of the Uncommon Curriculum and Assessment Team and will focus on mathematics in the 5-8 grade span. Associate Director of Middle School Math Content will support the highest quality grades 5-8 math curriculum and assessment through the following responsibilities:

Data Driven Instruction
• Support the analysis of network-level data on grades 5-8 Math Interim Assessments (IAs) to identify network goals and trends, including differentiated regional analysis from January-June.
• Aid in the creation of network level action plans and adapt network instruction to address Math IA data
• Adapt network Opening Procedures to address Math weekly data
• Support the creation of data responsive materials to network Math IA data such as reteach lessons and state test prep scope and sequences

DCI Development
• Grow MS Math DCIs and DCI Fellows through observation feedback of weekly data meetings, data analysis meetings, professional development, curriculum and assessment,
• Support with DCI and DCI Fellow Evaluation Process for MS Math DCIs and DCI Fellows
• Participate in MS Math DCI and DCI Fellow Immersion Days for new DCI and DCI Fellow Candidates

Curriculum & Instruction
• Own grade-level curriculums including writing/revising the scope and sequence and minute-by-minute lesson plans
• Manage curriculum & revisions for subset of grade levels including curriculum planners
• Plan and manage curriculum rollout-meetings
• Research latest MS Math curriculum and integrate best practices into Uncommon curriculum
• Manage yearly pacing calendars and scopes and sequences for the network for grades 5-8
• Work collaboratively with ACOOs and Technology to action plan instructional technology needs for the network and communicate to DOOs/Principals for grades 5-8
• Identify important curriculum, instruction and assessment dates, deadlines and revisions for grades 5-8
• Support annual strategic planning for grades 5-8 curriculum including action steps, owners, and timelines and ensure implementation
• Conduct audits of grades 5-8 curriculum including unit plans, lesson plans, and lesson plan feedback
• Support the grades 5-8 curriculum split from January-June including differentiated curriculums and SGI for NY, NJ, and MA

• Aid in the creation and/or revision of grades 5-8 Math IAs including writing/revising the assessment, alignment document, excel answer key, scoring guidance, teacher directions, etc.
• Support the training of assessment reviewers for grades 5-8
• Support with creation of assessment revision cycles for grades 5-8
• Research latest assessments for grades 5-8 Math and integrate best practices into Uncommon assessments

Professional Development
• Write and deliver high-quality, highest lever PD that addresses network observational and data needs with all supporting materials
• Facilitate network-wide Middle School Math August PD
• Plan and facilitate MS Math Teacher PD’s throughout the school year
• Plan and facilitate MS Math DCI Meetings throughout the school year
• Plan and facilitate MS Math Curriculum Revision Meetings for grades 5-8
• Plan and facilitate MS Math Lead Lesson Planner PD sessions throughout the school year

Instructional Support
• Participate in MS Math Content Walkthroughs
• Participate in Working Groups with K-12 Content Development Team
• Participate in MS SGI Walkthroughs
• Participate in MS Inspections
• Support in middle schools as needed based on AMD/CSO guidance
Organizational Relationships
• Reports to the Director of Math, 5-8
• Works closely with the Curriculum and Assessment Team, AMDs, and Lead Lesson Planners to maximize the ability of Uncommon Schools to support students’ academic success;
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

• Strong conceptual understanding of mathematics
• Instructional leadership and teaching experience required: proven results in student learning as both an instructional leader and a teacher
• Curriculum and assessment writing experience required
• Experience in schools with adult learning and professional development required
• Outstanding ability to lead, including influencing and motivating others
• Ability to learn quickly and to be effective in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment: able to work autonomously and thoroughly with independent self-reflection, as well as take direction as needed
• Exceptional and creative problem-solving, critical thinking, and strategic planning skills
• Strong time and task management skills, enabling multiple projects to be completed on time
• Alignment to and urgency around Uncommon’s mission
• Excellent team player: always puts the team’s goals first and works to support and motivate peers
• Strong writing skills: writes with clarity, precision and power
• Ability to move comfortably between high level strategic thinking and intricate details
• Excellent ability to drive change and build buy-in through relationship building
• This role may require travel up to 25% time and requires travel to all Uncommon regions
